The Rock talked about his father, Rocky Johnson, that was a professional wrestler, and a quite successful one, saying that he is a Black Nova Scotian of Irish descent. His roots from father’s side can be traced down all the way to American Revolutionary War and earlier when his ancestors emigrated to Canada. They escaped from the southern plantation and sided with the British. We know how dangerous those times was for Black Loyalists.

It is highly possible that multi-cultural background of the world’s biggest star at this moment, helped him to become what he is today. It definitely helped him with genetics which allowed him to have that magnificent frame. He was asked about what he has learned about his predecessors, especially about the Irish side, and Dwayne being Dwayne, initially joked that he doesn’t know what they were talking about. Shortly after firing his joke he continued, serious this time, saying “I have some strong Irish blood on my dad’s side of the family.” The Rock added: “I’ve always felt like I was tough and had a little bit of luck.”

Another thing that points to his Irish roots is the fact that Dwayne is a traditional Gaelic name. It was derived from Welsh monk, Saint Dubhan who was known in history for establishing an abbey in Hook Head Ireland sometime in the 5th century.
