Dwayne Johnson’s magnificent 2016 – the look back!

Source:inverse.com

As you already know, from any of the vast amount of posts we made about The Rock, he has had (and this is an understatement) a magnificent year. We, mere mortals, had nothing else but to count down the minutes left until 2016 was over, while on the other side Dwayne had a lot of things to be proud of. Among those certainly are achievements like being the highest paid actor and People’s hottest man alive, and that is all next to, God knows how much, box office hits. But this shouldn’t surprise you, as it doesn’t surprise any of his colleagues anymore. “He’s incredible. He brings this energy with him that is so focused, so professional, so funny” as it was stated by director Seth Gordon, who worked with Johnson on the upcoming film “Baywatch.” Seth continued “(He) brings out the best in those around him.”

When you see what exactly is revolving around Dwayne, you can’t but to stop and ask yourself what would happen if he actually started his career as an actor? Since everything lately is seemed to be going in this direction, we can not help but imagine that he would be even greater, more famous and knowing him probably even more humble than he is now. But we will leave speculations like this aside and try to remind ourselves about some of his greatest achievements in 2016.

1. Role model Rock

You probably know that The Rock lent his voice to the Demigod Maui in “Moana” which is Disney’s new animated film that debuted in November this year. He also did a singing part in that movie and showed that he is a truly versatile character and person. This is probably the sweetest role Rock had in a long time where he has to play a mentor to a 15-year-old Moana played by Auli’i Cravalho who, by the way, referred to Rock as “a tremendous role model”.

Auli’i gave a statement to the Daily News saying “Dwayne is an incredible guy; so determined and so kind”, and she added “To anyone wanting to succeed, Dwayne gives advice (TO) work hard for what you want, and never stop working.”

2. A proud American

This year was his annual “Rock the Troops” that took place in Hawaii, at Pearl Harbor military base and it had one task – to surprise around 50,000 active military members and to salute those serving our country. This event took place in November, and it was later aired on Spike TV in December and the audience watching it was estimated at more than 2.2 million people.

3. The production man

As 2016 was a great year for Dwayne, it was a great year for his production company as well which will make a long awaited “Baywatch” movie spinoff. Baywatch is due to hit the theaters sometime in May 2017, and besides Dwayne that has the leading part and an executive producer part, it will feature names like Zac Efron, Priyanka Chopra, Alexandra Daddario and Kelly Rohrbach.

The Seven Bucks Production company, which is co-founded with Dwayne’s longtime manager and producing partner Dany Garcia, is basically the brain behind the movie “Baywatch” as well as several other projects. Garcia once stated “Dwayne and our entire Seven Bucks Productions team has approached every new venture with the same sense of enthusiasm and passion,” and added “This year has truly been a win for our audience, our partners and, deservedly so, for a man who has gone from having just seven bucks in his pocket, to being named Forbes’ “Highest Paid Actor in the World”.” Incredible ha?!

4. Highest Paid Actor in 2016

When you are the most sought out for actor in Hollywood, you have to have a check that backs that up, and that is definitely what Johnson has. All of that was followed by Forbes naming Johnson highest paid actor of 2016 (and that is for the second time in a row). But to prove just how humble our star is, there is not a day that passes by and that he does not remember the times when he had just $7 to his name. According to Forbes, he earned around $64.5 million from June 2015 to June 2016.

5. Hottest Man Alive – he has got it all!

The year 2016 was a year when Dwayne somehow rounded his personality up with People Magazine naming him most attractive man alive in November. OK, you will probably say that this is nothing special. Well, what if we told you that he broke boundaries here as well by being the first man of color given this honor since Denzel Washington came on top of this list back in 1996. How about that?

When he gave a statement to People Magazine, he made a joke saying “Wow, we’ve pretty much reached the pinnacle. I’m not quite too sure where we go from here. I’ve done it all, this is it.” But that is probably not true because we are certain that we will see a lot more from him in the year that is ahead of all of us. Who knows we might even see him run for the presidency in 2024, which Dwayne hasn’t ruled out. He said for Vanity sometime in November “It would be a great opportunity to help people, so it’s possible.”
