Dwayne Johnson loves social media. He even compared it to a love relationship. The Rock said that it’s something you need to work on and ‘cultivate’ it. The Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle superstar is one of the most popular persons on online platforms such as Twitter and Instagram.

People’s Champ claims that this didn’t come by itself, but it’s instead a product of his work and cultivation of social networks and relationships with fans. During the London premiere of Rampage, Hollywood’s best-paid actor said: “Social media has been one of the best, if not the number one best decision that I was able to make in our business. I mean that, it allowed fans access to me that just otherwise I can’t do on any other platform. My relationship with the fans is the most important relationship that I have, outside of my own relationships that I have with my family.”

It’s hard to disagree when you look at the number of followers that Johnson has on Instagram and Twitter. His videos on Instagram are aimed directly at his fans, while on Twitter he is not shy of getting into conversation directly with a fan.

He states that this is essential in building a bond: “That is what social media is to me, it’s a relationship, so like in any relationship you have to cultivate it, you have to work on it. You have to get memed when you screw up; you have to laugh at it. Then you have to support each other, and you have to motivate each other and inspire each other, and then you have got to mess with each other a little bit. It’s all those things collectively that makes social media very important to me.”

There is no doubt that this approach works for Johnson. But, what makes him unique is that he’s as sincere as it gets. Dwayne isn’t doing any of this to get the points with the audience; he’s doing it because he loves it. Having so many people enjoy it, is only a bonus. Rampage star took advantage of the expansion of social networks to increase his popularity, but the benefit is mutual. While The Rock is enjoying online platforms, the world gets to enjoy one of the most charismatic characters alive. Its a win for everyone.
