Oprah Winfrey’s speech at the Golden Globes was good, but she gave us a small hint at the end of it. She said: “A new day is on the horizon,” and to a lot of people this means that we are going to watch Oprah as a 2020 presidential candidate.
Just bear in mind that this may not be what she hinted at! But the rumors keep circulation around the internet and let’s assume that she is going to run for president. If she wins, she might want to turn to Meryl Streep for advice because she has some ideas about who should be in Oprah’s future cabinet.
The actress was on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and she joked that Winfrey would run for office. When asked whether that could actually happen, Streep said that she didn’t know, but she suggested Tom Hanks be her running mate, whereas Johnson should also be a part of the campaign.
Streep told Jimmy Kimmel: “You could just keep it in Hollywood, you know. You could have The Rock as the joint chief-of-staff. You could have Harrison Ford running defense.”
However, Streep and Kimmel discussed Winfrey running for president and that idea doesn’t sound strange because she wouldn’t be the first TV personality as a presidential candidate or the president itself. In the past, Ronald Reagan was an actor who became president, whereas we also need to mention Arnold Schwarzenegger who was governor of California for eight years. That may not be the Oval Office, but it is a high position nevertheless. And the current president Donald Trump was also a TV star, besides being a businessman.
And while people would like to see Oprah as a candidate in 2020, she said in October last year: “There will be no running for office of any kind for me.” But what about the Rock – could he run for president? So far, he hasn’t confirmed the rumors, but he hasn’t denied them either.
