Prince Alwaleed bin Talal of Saudi Arabia condemned Donald Trump and called him a “disgrace” after the Republican presidential candidate proposed a ban on all Muslims entering the United States.
In a message posted on Twitter, Prince Alwaleed said Trump is a disgrace not only to the GOP but to all America. GOP is the acronym for Grand Old Party, the other name for the Republican Party.
The Saudi Prince also said Trump will never win the U.S. presidential election and should withdraw from the race.
Prince Alwaleed is the founder and Chairman of Kingdom Holding Company (TADAWUL:4280), which owns more than 5% of the outstanding common stock of Twitter. He is the 26th wealthiest billionaire worldwide with a net worth of $27.2 billion as of December 11, 2015 based on Bloomberg Billionaire Index.
In response, Trump said Prince Alwaleed wants to control politicians in the United States using his daddy’s money.
Trump calls for complete ban on Muslims
Trump called for a complete and total ban on all Muslims seeking to travel to the United States. He released his anti-Muslim proposal after the mass shooting by a Muslim couple in San Bernardino, California. Fourteen people were killed and 22 others were injured in the Islamic, extremism-inspired terrorist attack.
He emphasized that Muslim people have violent hatred towards Americans based on a polling data. The Republican presidential candidate added that the United States” cannot be victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life.”
According to him, the ban is necessary until we determine and understand the problem [Muslims’ hatred toward Americans] and the “dangerous threat it poses.”
Trump’s anti-Muslim proposal inconsistent with American values
Prince Alwaleed is not the only person who condemned Trump because of his anti-Muslim proposal. Many people around the world are against it including the top leaders of the Republican Party.
House Speaker Paul Ryan said Trump’s comments are “not who we are as a party” and “not conservatism.” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the billionaire’s anti-Muslim proposal is “completely inconsistent with American values.”
Senator Lindsey Graham said Trump does not represent the Republican Party and described him as a “race-baiting, xenophobic, religious bigot.” He told the billionaire to “knock it off. You’re putting people at risk.”
