Defensive End Kony Ealy Visits Dallas Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys have their eyes set on the draft, but they are also trying to pick up some free agents while they wait for April showdown. The player who has already scheduled a visit is a defensive end, Kony Ealy. He will be at the Star in Frisco on Tuesday.

Kony Ealy was a second-round pick in 2014. He was drafted by Carolina Panthers. Last season he was traded to New England Patriots where he was released. New York Jets claimed him off waivers in August of 2017. In the previous season, he played in 15 games, starting 14. Ealy recorded one sack and one interception, and during his entire career, he amassed 15 sacks.

America’s Team interest in him dates way back. He even visited prior the 2014 NFL Draft. If Cowboys haven’t managed to trade up for DeMarcus Lawrence, Ealy would have been their DE pick that year. Even during the last off-season when he was a free agent Dallas head office tried to snatch him, but Jets got there first.

Kony Ealy had his arguably best NFL game in Super Bowl 50 against Denver Broncos. During the SB 50, he recorded three sacks. This is a Super Bowl record when it comes to a number of sacks. During the same game, he also had an interception and a forced fumble. But, this wasn’t enough for Panthers to win. The defensive star of the match was Von Miller who also was Super Bowl MVP that year.

The best career game for Ealy and one of the best defensive performances in the SB ever wasn’t something this guy built on. Instead, he was average in 2016. He performed in all 16 games, but only started six, recording 32 tackles, five sacks, and an interception.

If Cowboys manage to sign Kony Ealy, they would add depth to their D-line. With him, Big D defense would have a formidable backbone. With players such as DeMarcus Lawrence, Tyrone Crawford, Taco Charlton, Datone Jones, Lewis Neal and Charles Tapper, Cowboys defense would be a force in the league.
