“Deadpool” was released almost a year ago (in February 2016) and it has been praised on various occasions and for different reasons since then. As the eighth installment of the X-Men movie series, it turned out to be the highest-grossing one in the franchise, as well as the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. It was also said to be the first superhero movie which contains a Zamboni chase scene. Now, there’s another accomplishment – “Deadpool” has been named as the most pirated movie in 2016.

According to TorrentFreak, which used statistical results from more than one source, public BitTorrent trackers included, “Deadpool” has won the race for the most wanted illegally downloaded movie. “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is right below it on this list, while the third title among the most pirated ones is “Captain America: Civil War.” These three are not the only highly successful and highly grossing movies, as the list also includes “Finding Dory” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

In addition to the five films mentioned above, each one of which can be described as commercial success breaking box-office records, there are also some movies which were not that successful but are still among the top ten. These include “Independence Day: Resurgence” and “Warcraft.” Finally, we should not forget to mention that “The Revenant,” “X-Men: Apocalypse” and “Suicide Squad” have found their way to TorrentFreak’s list, as well.

“Deadpool” is the first among most pirated films, but it is the sixth among the big domestic ones in 2016. It has earned $363.1 million domestically, but $783 million worldwide. All in all, it is one of the most successful superhero movies without a doubt, so the production team started working on Deadpool sequel soon after its release, with David Leitch (known for “John Wick”) at the helm of the project. The sequel will hit theaters in 2018.
