For the last couple of months, it has been widely speculated about who will play Domino in the upcoming sequel of Deadpool. There was a long list of actresses who could take on this great role, including Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Sofia Boutella, Lizzy Caplan, Sylvia Hoeks and many others. Last month, it was rumored that Scandal star Kerry Washington also had a chance to be the next Neena Thurman, together with Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Sienna Miller, who were said to have passed the audition for the part.
The team wanted to find someone who would be able to present Domino in a particular manner. This is what they had in mind: “Neena is highly capable, supremely confident and armored in… well ARMOR… and bullet-proof sarcasm. But beneath her shell she’s still and vulnerable and some soft, beating remnant of her humanity remains intact. In this scene we need to see both sides. When she can’t get what she needs with insults, bluster and threats we need to see some of that vulnerability. It’s hard for her to let down her guard, and in the mercenary community she grew up in showing compassion is almost embarrassing. We should feel like she’d be more comfortable killing Silberman than saying ‘Please’.”
Numerous names were added to the list, and the question remained unanswered for quite some time. One of the reasons for this is definitely Tim Miller’s departure. The crew had to focus on finding a new director for the movie, so they couldn’t pay enough attention to casting at that moment. But, as you probably know, David Leitch (known for John Wick) took over control and is now at the helm of the movie, so 20th Century Fox finally focused on the cast. They decided to entrust Atlanta star Zazie Beetz with the iconic role of Domino in the sequel.
Ryan Reynolds, on of the producers of Deadpool 2, broke the big news on Twitter. He posted a mock comic book cover which features Domino and Deadpool falling from an airplane, with Zazie Beetz’s face instead of Domino’s, so the message is clear. He also shared a photo in which many dominoes are placed in such a way to write the name, Zazie Beetz.
The young actress is best known for her part in FX’s comedy series Atlanta. Well, at least that’s her greatest part for now. We assume this will change after the Deadpool 2 release. The sequel has not been set for a specific release date yet, but we know for sure it will come out next year. Follow us, and we’ll keep you updated.
