Just days after signing his second-round tender, David Irving found himself under investigation for domestic violence. The police in Frisco, Texas started an inquiry after allegations against Irving were made by a woman claiming to be his girlfriend.

In a statement given to Dallas Morning News, a woman stated that she “made some allegations that were false.”

The police report claims that Dallas Cowboys defensive end is being investigated for assault with bodily injury to a family member, unlawful restraint and assault impeding breathing and circulation. The same woman reported two separate incidents. One at 5 p.m. CT and one at 10:30 p.m. CT. According to her statements to the police, she was dragged away from her house while being held by her hair. But, she later denied these accusations saying that she lied. Police returned on the second call, and the same woman claimed that she was assaulted.

In a statement to the local news she said: “On April 22nd, the father of my child and my current boyfriend had a vocal argument that spilled out into our front yard. My neighbors were concerned and called 911. I was very upset and made some allegations that were false at the time due to our vocal argument and my emotional state. I had no intentions of getting David into trouble; I was just very emotional and upset.”

She continued by saying: “I would like to be clear, although our relationship is not perfect, we love one another and David did not put his hands on me at any time. I’m deeply sorry this has caused both of us so much unwanted and undue attention. David is a great father, and our focus is working on our relationship and raising our beautiful daughter. I would urge the media to please refrain from spreading the false story.”

For now, no arrests were made.

Earlier the same day allegations on illegal substance use and violence were reported on his Twitter account. According to Irving, his account was hacked by his girlfriend. A few years back in 2013 Irving was charged with domestic assault after accusations by the same woman. The charges were dropped a few months later.

The bad news for Irving is that he can be fined or suspended by the league even if he wasn’t arrested. Last year Elliott was suspended by the NFL. The Ohio court didn’t prosecute him, but NFL did. It will be bad news for Cowboys and Irving if he gets suspended in 2018 after he missed half of the games in 2017. In the new season he was preparing to play out in search of a long-term deal, but now that might be in jeopardy at least until this case is resolved.
