Dallas Cowboys Captains Play Down Garrett Guys Comments

9-18-16 Cowboys vs redskins

Dez Bryant is gone, but he left some questions unanswered. He steered the pot a bit in Dallas with “Garrett Guys” remarks. Jason Witten responded immediately by saying that the “locker room is united.” Travis Frederick followed suit by saying that Cowboys roster “is the closest group since the Cowboys drafted him in 2013.”

Calling out Cowboys captains publicly didn’t disturb the relationships within Dallas’ group. Bryant stated that “Garret Guys” are one of the reasons he got released. Today, after the dust has settled America’s Team captains are claiming that everything is as usual in Frisco.

Talking to the reporters at the Albertsons Companies All-Star Gala at The Star, Cowboys legendary tight end said: “Absolutely not. My job and everybody else’s is to go play and try to lead the best we can by example. There’s nothing to that. Look, being a captain is a huge honor for me and the other guys, and I know what those guys’ character is all about. There’s really nothing there.”

Witten was one of the six captains for Dallas Cowboys during 2017 season together with Dak Prescott, Sean Lee, Tyrone Crawford, Orlando Scandrick and Dan Bailey.

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott also talked about this subject: “For me, I mean being a quarterback, being a captain, I take the blame. I take all the blame. When you lose, things like this happen. So Dez knows how I feel. We’ve shared messages, and he knows my stance on everything, so I wish him well.”

Every Cowboys player that gave an interview about Bryant release dismissed “Garrett Guys” comments and talked only positively about Bryant and his contribution to Big D franchise.

Sean Lee, who is also a captain, and one of the best players and linebackers in the team and the league also commented on Bryant by saying: “Me and Dez came in together (in 2010). He’s one of the best players I’ve ever played with, a guy that I fed off his passion … It’s going to be really hard to replace.”

Dez Bryant, a 29-year old receiver, left Dallas after eight seasons. During his tenure, he became teams leader in touchdowns with 73 caught balls in the end zone. But, during last three seasons, he was on a decline, and his salary became a burden for Cowboys. He got released, and now the future for him lies in one of the other 31 teams, while America’s Team will look to draft his replacement during April draft.
