Cowboys Go With Cornerback In The Second Round

As soon as we have seen that the Dallas Cowboys went with a defensive end in the first round, everybody knew that they will be looking to add a cornerback as soon as possible. Those were their biggest needs, and they have tried to fill the holes that they have right away. With their 60th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys selected Chidobe Awuzie out of Colorado.

The ‘Boys front office was probably a bit afraid that they might run out of candidates to draft. Even though this draft is pretty deep when it came to the cornerbacks, a lot of people recognized that and drafted their pass defenders before the Cowboys were on the clock in the second round. But, in the end, it seems that Dallas drafted the best corner that was still on the board when it came for them to make their selection.

Many analysts think that Awuzie was one of the top five options for the second round. Dallas was for sure going to go with a pass defender, even if he was not the best player left on the board. They drafted by need and not by the philosophy of selecting the best available.

These first two rounds for the Dallas Cowboys were predictable as everybody thought that they are going to go with defensive end/cornerback combination for their first two picks. Taco Charlton with the 28th pick and Chidobe Awuzie with the 60th were two solid selections for the Cowboys, but their draft is not over. Last year, their best pick was a fourth rounder, and it is obvious that they can still make a difference-making selection.
