We Know the Way, a short clip from Disney’s film Moana (featuring the original song of the same title), written and performed jointly by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Opetaia Foa’I, has recently been released by Walt Disney Animation Studios. The clip tells us about the life of Moana’s ancestors, the voyaging life in every sense of the word – always rich and dynamic. You can also look up The Way to Moana and see what the ones working behind the scenes have to say about the movie.

Moana is an extensive CG-animated adventure film which depicts a dangerous mission and courageous young girl, Moana that goes on to save her people. This journey brings her to the legendary demigod Maui, who becomes her hero and guide. Maui helps Moana reach her goal and become a master wayfinder. During the voyage, the two of them have to face dangers of sailing across the open ocean, they confront some giant monsters and fight against all the odds, but, at the end of the day, it is worth going through all of that. Moana discovers her own identity – which is all she wanted in the first place – and fulfills her ancestors’ quest. Auli’i Cravalho voices Moana, while Dwayne Johnson lends his voice to Maui.

When it comes to the rest of the characters, Rachel House voices Gramma Tala, Moana’s best friend, Temuera Morrison is behind the voice of Moana’s overprotective father, Chief Tui, while Nicole Scherzinger borrows voice to her mother, Sina. Other crew members include Jemaine Clement that lends his voice to Tamatoa, and, finally, Alan Tudyk is Heihei. Besides them, we also meet the Kakamora, the crazy tribe of pirates, or Coconut monsters, who believe that the end justifies the means, and a small pig Pua, Moana’s loyal pet, innocent and playful.
