Chihayafuru is a manga series which has been serialized since 2007 and there are 33 volumes published so far, the last of which came out in October last year. In May 2011, this manga inspired Morio Asaka to direct the anime adaptation which aired for the first time in October the same year on several Japanese channels, such as Nippon TV, HTV and FBS. Kousuke Yamashita composed the music, Kunihiko Hamada designed the characters and Tomoyuki Shimizu was the art director. In 2013, the anime was renewed for the second season, which debuted on Nippon TV, but it was soon available on other channels, as well.

Developed by Madhouse studio, this drama anime was simulcast in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand by Crunchyroll (both Season 1 and Season 2).

The anime plot

Chihayafuru focuses on Chihaya Ayase, a young girl whose greatest dream when we meet her is to become a super model, just like her big sister. However, her interests soon change, as she discovers she is quite talented for karuta game, which is unusual, given the fact that this is primarily men’s game. Arata Wataya, a boy who plays karuta himself, discovers Chihaya’s potential. All in all, her new dream is to become Japan’s best karuta player instead of pursuing the career of a supermodel, and she is ready to sacrifice many things in order to achieve her goal.

Chihayafuru Season 3 Release Date

Ever since the last episode of the second season was released (March 2013), it has been only speculated about the third season. We are still waiting Madhouse studio to confirm the anime renewal and perhaps give us a hint about the Season 3 release date. We believe there will be at least one more season, as the manga series is still ongoing, but at this point, that’s only our guess. We promise we’ll let you know as soon as we find out more.
