Celebrities That Are Interested In 2020 Presidential Run
Donald Trump’s win motivated celebrities around the country to talk about politics more, and some of them declared an interest in running for president. The current president is not the first celebrity that took the most important position in the country as Reagan was an actor that won the race and went to White House. The 2020 presidential race will be the one that will go down in the books because more people from movie and music industry may try out their luck. Let’s dive into the list.
Kanye West – “Don’t be sleazy, vote for Yeezy”
In 2015, at the MTV VMAs, Kanye West announced that he would run for president in 2020. He did it before it was cool and before Trump won and we expect West’s name to pop up on the list. We are not sure whether he would run as democrat or republican or perhaps as an independent, but Video Vanguard Award reported him saying: “And yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president.” Just picture Kim Kardashian West as a First Lady before you cast a vote for the rapper.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson – “The Foundation This Nation Need”
In an episode of Saturday Night Live, Dwayne Johnson announced his campaign with Tom Hanks being the vice-president. Even though it was all a jape, Johnson is seriously considering running for president. He told Vanity Fair in November 2016 “This past election shows anything can happen. It would be a great opportunity to help people, so it’s possible.” He also tweeted: “Maybe one day. Surely the White House has a spot for my pick up truck.”
Kevin Hart – “Have a heart and Vote Hart”
Will Kevin Hart, Dwayne Johnson’s close friend run for president in the same year as The Rock? The 2020 election race is still far away, but things are heating up, and Hart told E! News: “The world wanted to see that and he didn’t go with me, so I’m not rooting for DJ. If Dwayne Johnson runs for president, I will be running for president the same year. And I can announce my VP right now, and it’s somebody I love — it’s my son!”
Katy Perry – “Make America Roar Again”
Just like many other celebrities, Katy Perry was a Hillary Clinton supporter. However, one year before the 2016 election, she posted a photo on social media with Bill Clinton and George W. Bush who were 42nd and 43rd presidents. She wrote: “42,43,46?!” Donald Trump is the 45th president of the United States.
Chris Rock – “Everybody loves America”
In November 2016, the popular comedian announced that he would potentially run for president in 2020. He made a meme of him standing in front of the nation’s seal, and it read “The only thing white is the house.” Is Chris Rock really going to run?
Ron Perlman – “Sons of Democracy”
The Sons of Anarchy actor Ron Perlman was among the first one who said that he would become a politician after Trump’s win. On Facebook, he posted: “I am hereby using my immense Facebook presence to announce my candidacy for the President of the United States, 2020.”
Will Smith – “In pursuit of this nation’s happiness”
During Smith’s promotion of Concussion in 2015, he told CBS News: “I mean, I gotta be the President. Come on! What else would I run for?” We assume his children would be involved in a campaign as well.
Oprah Winfrey – “You get a president”
While some of these celebrities on this list might have been joking, Oprah is definitely the one who is serious about her presidential intentions. After the Golden Globes speech this January, the social media went on fire, and CNN reported that seeing Oprah in the presidential race is an “active possibility.” However, before the Golden Globes, she told that she wasn’t interested multiple times. Could Oprah’s name be on the list as well?
Roseanne Barr – “The revival the nation needs.”
Roseanne Barr was a Green Party candidate in 2012 election, and there is a possibility that she may run again. In January 2018, she said: “I do love Oprah. I think I would be a better president than Oprah and Susan Sarandon, and possibly even President Trump. And I did run in 2012.”
Who do you think should run for president from these celebrities? Are there any other celebs you would like to see in the White House?
