Before the production of the prestigious 8 Series moniker takes place, BMW decided to show this stunning concept. This concept debuted in May at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, and now, it sits at the Goodwood Festival of Speed podium.
The German carmaker has promised to produce the model that will look similar to this show car, and this is what causes our excitement to go through the roof. The production version is supposed to arrive sometime next year, and we can already predict some of the changes – the kidney grille will not look as fancy as the one seen here, the headlights will be modified and bigger side mirrors are expected. Moreover, we will see changes to the taillights whereas conventional door handles are inevitable.
The exterior is not as futuristic as the interior where the biggest changes will occur. The concept has very few physical controls in the cabin, so that will most certainly be different. Instead of that, we can see touchscreens and a lovely all-digital instrument cluster with one of the most beautiful seats ever installed in a car.
The 8 Series will be one of BMW’s flagship cars, so it has to feature the largest and most powerful engines. The M8 Coupe has already been put to the test, and it used the latest version of the 4.4-liter biturbo V8 unit. The new car could sport the xDrive system, but in order to keep the enthusiasts happy, BMW will need a pure RWD model. Also in development is an M8 GTE version which is a track-only vehicle.
The 8 Series reboot car will have a difficult job and some high expectations to live up to, but we have no doubt that it will be at least as good as the beloved predecessor.
