The German automaker is definitely ready to launch the new-gen 5 Series on February 11, 2017, but before that, they decided to showcase the 5 Series Touring way ahead of Geneva Motor Show debut. As you would expect more than a few features that debuted in the sedan have been carried across to the estate.

New 2017 BMW 5 Series Touring Engine

BMW 5 Series Touring is available with four different powertrain options that can all be attached to a standard 8-speed Steptronic transmission. The engine lineup includes two petrol and two diesel options. The petrol units are 2.0 L four-cylinder unit that offers 248 HP and 350 lb/ft of torque and will make a run from 0 to 62 MPH in 6.5 seconds (according to automaker). The 3.0 L 6 cylinder inline unit, on the other hand, brings 335 HP and 450 lb/ft of torque and can do the 0 to 62 MPH sprint in 5.1 seconds, again according to the automaker.

The diesel options are 2.0 L and 3.0 L units capable of delivering 187 HP and 400 lb/ft of torque and 261 HP and 620 lb/ft of torque respectively. The 2.0 L unit is offering you an option to pair it to the standard six-speed manual gearbox or the optional 8-speed Steptronic transmission. The sprint times (0-62 MPH) for the 2.0 L unit are 8.0 seconds for the manual while the automatic is slightly better with 7.8 seconds needed. The 3.0 L engine reduces that to a 5.8 seconds sprint time, and these are all times according to the German company. Not bad!

As you would expect this one will, just like the rest of the 5 Series lineup, receive the same driver-oriented cockpit that will offer plenty of head, leg and shoulder room, with a single difference – the estate is just slightly longer than its sedan brother. Besides this interior will be complemented with a high-resolution 10.25-inch touchscreen display and a 70 % larger projection surface with the latest-gen BMW Head-Up Display.

The BMW 5 Series Touring 2017 rests on the all-new chassis that greatly reduces the overall weight of the car. The company says that the usage of the aluminum in suspension side members and tailgate, together with the drive-system technology is the answer to reducing estate’s fuel consumption and emissions by 11% compared to its little brother. But BMW didn’t stop there. They decided to jam pack the 2017 BMW 5 Series Touring with all the latest assistance systems and functionality like cross traffic warning and priority warning, lane change assistant and lane keeping assistant with active side collision protection, and the evasion aid. This new safety system is allowing steering and lane control assistance from walking speeds to up to 130 MPH.

I like cars and everything that comes with them. My passion are American muscle cars, but unfortunately the closest I managed to come near one is behind my laptop watching an image of the new Chevy or Dodge and writing about it. But that’s ok I’m still optimistic. When I’m not behind the laptop writing I’m on the streets and auto shows admiring all stuff rolling on four wheels being propelled by a petrol engine!
