BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY)’s subsidiary QNX Software Systems announced today that its software is deployed in the infotainment systems of more than 50 million vehicles which includes Acura, Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Ford, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Land Rover, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Toyota, and Volkswagen.
IHS Automotive recent report names QNX as the market leader in infotainment systems software with more than 50 percent market share.
“QNX is the clear leader with over 50% market share in the infotainment segment and Microsoft as a distant second with market share in the 20% range” the report says.
“QNX Software Systems is the clear leader in automotive software, specifically for infotainment, and is forecasted to remain the leader for years to come — growing from more than 16 million units in 2013 to 56 million in 2022,” said Egil Juliussen, director of research, infotainment and ADAS, IHS Automotive.
Today at 2015 CES, QNX Software Systems demonstrated just how its software solutions for infotainment systems and specifically the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) can enable highly integrated driving experiences which in turn promote safe driving.
“From vision sensors to smartphones, the car is experiencing a massive influx of new technologies, and automakers must blend these in a way that is simple, helpful, and non-distracting,” said Andrew Poliak, global director of business development, QNX Software Systems.
BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) also demonstrated an Internet of Things (IoT) from the QNX booth at 2015 CES. The demonstration focused on the automotive industry showing remote browsing of vehicle data such as log and fault analysis and performance optimization.
Another BlackBerry IoT demonstration for asset tracking thousands of truck containers, shows current location as well as shipping history.
BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) aims to use QNX in the IoT for more than just the automotive industry. BlackBerry’s project Ion was created as a result.
