BlackBerry Ltd (BBRY) Unveils Limited Edition Black & Gold Passport

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB)’s most ambitious device Passport has been criticized by many for its square shape. But the Canadian smartphone maker is making its best efforts to make the device noticeable, and for this it has recently introduced limited edition Gold and Black versions of the device.

How BlackBerry Passport Gold version is different?

Initially, BlackBerry Passport was available only in Black and White colors earlier, and later a limited edition Red was released. Now, the device has two more variants Limited Edition Black & Gold BlackBerry Passport.

“And part of that style is the variety of color options. BlackBerry Passport is available in black, white and the Limited Edition Red BlackBerry Passport, and now, the Limited Edition Black & Gold BlackBerry Passport,” said a blog post from BlackBerry.

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB)’s new Gold version of the device is different from the original, and is more glamorous. The original device comes with a metal rim around the touchscreen and the three-row QWERTY keyboard. However, the new versions have the rim revamped with a gold finish. The device also has a back-plate made of leather, which will be gentler on the palm of users.

Already sold-out

In October last year, the signs of a possible Gold version of BlackBerry Passport were spotted for the first time after few images of the ‘gold edition’ were leaked. The device took too long to be available for the consumers. The gold version of the Passport SIM-free and unlocked is priced at $899 in the US and $999 in Canada, and only 50 units of the device were offered for sale.

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB)’s Gold Passport is surely tempting, but comes at a very high price. Paying the price alone does not guarantee the limited edition device as it is available in limited quantity. And a report from Slashgear informs that the handsets are not available at any of the stores in the US and Canada, and there is no hope of any more handsets coming in the stock. It is very much likely that the device would be soon available on eBay.
