The Dallas Cowboys are considered to be an America’s team as they are the most popular franchise in the NFL. The Houston Texans have always been a second fiddle to the Cowboys, even though they had similar last couple of seasons. Yes, the Cowboys dominated the NFL in the regular season last year, but in the previous years, Texans were more than capable of outplaying the ‘Boys.
When we look at these two teams, there is no doubt that they are a lot different. Two distinct playstyles, two distinct mindsets going into games, different strengths as well as weaknesses. So, which team is better?
The Dallas Cowboys are known for wanting to run the football. When everybody was looking to add their next franchise quarterback in the first round of previous drafts, the Dallas Cowboys were focused on building that offensive line. Then, when they have assembled the most dominant O-line in the game, they went out and spent a 4th overall pick on a legit superstar-to-be of a running back. The defense is not nearly as good as the offense, but this team wants to keep them on the bench by running the clock and picking the opposing defenses apart with a combo of passing the ball and pounding the ball.
On the other hand, we have a Houston Texans team that is not explosive on the offensive side of the ball. The quarterback play was bad last year, while we don’t know what to expect from DeSaun Watson. The defense, well, it’s maybe the best in the NFL. While J.J. Watt might not be as impactful as he used to be, Jadaveon Clowney is going to be a beast in 2017. Nobody is going to run against this squad this season.
At the end of the day, we are going to roll with the Cowboys, just based on the fact that we don’t know how a rookie QB Watson is going to play. But, we wouldn’t be surprised if Houston ends up with the better record after all is said and done.
