Overwatch is a competitive online multiplayer shooting game that was created by Blizzard Entertainment, the same company that released World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, and Starcraft. Some of the skills that you will find useful while playing are situational awareness, shooter skill, character mastery, and team coordination. There is a minimum of 25 characters in the game and the core game is comprised of 6 vs. 6 in four game types; escort, assault, control, and hybrid. The core game is played by either quick play or competitive play.

Quick play – this is a regular play mode that most players will use during the initial phases of learning the game and where a lot of time is spent.

Competitive – only when a player reaches level 25 are they able to access this mode of play. The mode is further broken down into seasons each of which may last a couple of months. During this time, a total of 10 matches must be played for you to get a rank according to win/loss record.

Choosing your platform

Quite a dynamic game, Overwatch can be played on PC, Xbox One or PlayStation 4. This is not a choice because if you want to play, you will use whatever platform you have unless you have them all. PC is the native platform of Blizzard’s games and Overwatch will find a natural home here. As a new player, however, you may find the PC scene to be more hostile than the consoles.

Choosing a character

It will not be long after starting a game to realize that the various characters have individual abilities. It will take time to master all of them but at least start by recognizing them and mastering their skills and weapons. Equally as important is being able to overpower them in case you find them to be in your opposition.

So far, it may sound like a daunting task for a game that you are supposed to play for fun. Are you into the call of duty? Soldier 76 is the best pick because he seems to be designed for entry-level players, so you have a chance to score big using this character.
