Apple will work with LG on a 3D camera for iPhone 8?!

Most of you already know, and as we reported previously, it is widely expected that a new iPhone 8 will have some radical changes in its design department and features, and one of them might as well be a 3D camera. The Korea Economic Daily reported that Apple had started a collaboration with LG Innotek for the purpose of developing a camera module that will enable 3D photography to smartphones. The story continues in stating that LG Innotek’s 3D dual rear camera module might be used in Apples new products starting as early as second half of 2017.

This site also delivered a quote from the sources that are close to both companies stating: “Apple is now studying how to apply its 3D camera technology into LG Innotek’s smartphone camera. Since LG Innotek also has its own 3D camera and related technologies, such joint efforts will likely to bear fruit sometime within next year”. If you recall LG Innotek’s 3D camera technology has been seen before and where else than in Optimus 3D, which was launched in 2011. The report also stated that LG Innotek is exclusively supplying its dual cameras for iPhone 7 that was revealed in Korea in October, and that is why this rumored cooperation makes perfect sense.

One thing that supports this story is the fact that 2017 is the year when Apple is celebrating their 10th anniversary, and this is when Apple is expected to radically re-tune their smartphone flagship line with iPhone 8 in terms of design and features. Previous reports surrounding the new iPhone 8 have referred to the wireless charging technology and an attempt of Apple to make the wireless charging truly wireless (you will be able to charge your phone within the circle of 15 ft of your charger). This info came from trusted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI Securities.

Kuo also made another report stating that Apple is planning a launch of bezel-less OLED iPhone 8 together with two standard devices with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays next year. All of these are expected to come with glass casings and have wireless charging option. Kuo continued by saying that the bigger 5.5-inch “Plus” model will be somewhat of a top notch flagship, while the OLED iPhone is expected to be superior to the other two devices at least tech-vise. One more thing should make you happy, and that is the optical image stabilization (OIS) which is, according to Mr. Kuo, coming to both the wide angle and telephoto lens as soon as next year promising higher quality of image.

My name is Miloš Kalajdžić and I come from Brčko DC in Bosnia. I was born on July 20 th 1988 and so far I obtained a BSc in economics and one year of working experience in my field of study. I am a very hard-working person who leaves nothing unfinished and halfway done. When I commit to something I give my best to make sure that everything is done the way as it is supposed to be. I like cars and everything that comes with them. My passion are American muscle cars, but unfortunately the closest I managed to come near one is behind my laptop watching an image of the new Chevy or Dodge and writing about it. But that’s ok I’m still optimistic. When I’m not behind the laptop writing I’m on the streets and auto shows admiring all stuff rolling on four wheels being propelled by a petrol engine!
