Apple iPhone X – What to Expect?

The new iPhone X will arrive later this year, and although there isn’t any concrete information, the rumors keep spreading around the web and they allow us to take a better look. According to the rumors, three models will be offered – the iPhone 7S, the 7S Plus and the iPhone X a.k.a. iPhone 8. The latter one is the model we are interested in.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, so we might see something special. Early predictions suggest that the iPhone 7 will sport a bezel-less screen and recently we have had a chance to see a transparent case with vertical camera cutout and speaker cutouts. Moreover, photos of a “CNC dummy unit” were posted on Twitter and they could have indicated a prototype rather than the final design.

The photos show 4mm bezels, glass on both sides, a metal frame and dual front cameras. A large power button is on the side, while the final version is probably going to be black. The California-based tech giant is supposedly making two iPhone X devices, but only the better one is going to be released.

Some rumors indicate that the iPhone X will have a curved edge-to-edge or bezel-less screen plus the introduction of the OLED tech is a possibility. Bloomberg says that Apple is testing a display which will cover the front end of the device. On the other hand, anonymous sources claim that a flat OLED screen will be featured on the iPhone X. These screens will be under a 2.5D piece of glass inside of a chassis made of stainless steel.

The OLED that might be offered are usually thinner than LCDs, and you can find those screens on the Apple Watch. According to the reports from Nikkei and Bloomberg, it is likely that the company will introduce OLED units and the company has already bought between 70 million and 100 million OLED panels from Samsung. Only Samsung produces these screens, and before the end of 2017, the South Korean manufacturer will produce about 95 million of them. Some other reports say that True Tone displays will be used, but only the iPad Pro uses this type of screens.

A11 Processor

The new iPhone X is probably going to feature new A11 processor, which is going to use a 10-nanometer manufacturing process, says DigiTimes. The chip is expected to be faster than the A10 Fusion processor, and according to Economic Daily News, the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company should produce it soon. The Chinese research firm Trendforce says that the flagship gadget will come with 64GB and 256 GB of internal storage.

Wireless Charging

Wireless charging has been developed by the company for some time now, but after Apple had joined the Wireless Power Consortium, Powermat said that it would work to support whatever wireless charging standards the new iPhone uses. Qi charging might also be supported, but whatever comes, there is no doubt that Apple is working on wireless tech.

Rear Dual Camera and 3D Front Camera

Bloomberg reports that Apple is developing the dual-lens front camera, while the iPhone X is going to use the dual-lens unit on the back, but in a vertical layout. The cameras will be similar to the ones on the iPhone 7 Plus, but the vertical setup should improve functionality. Apple’s analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that the tech giant will make the iPhone X with a revolutionary infrared sensor which will have the ability to sense 3D space. The Korea Economic Daily confirmed that Apple and LG are working together on the dual-camera module with a 3D photography. It remains unknown whether these patents will be used on the production smartphone.

Water Resistance, Glass, Ceramic and Plastic

The other information coming directly from Ming-Chi Kuo is that new device might feature glass, ceramic or even plastic back. On the other hand, it is possible that Apple may opt for a stainless-steel frame. The company is expected to produce the iPhone X with IP68 rating instead of the IP67 which would allow the submersion of the device of up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.

Apple iPhone X Release Date and Price

We don’t know what the name of the new iPhone will be, so we will not discuss it further, and at this moment you can either call it iPhone X or iPhone 8. The starting price of the flagship model will most likely exceed $1,000, which is not a good thing because the majority of people are not willing to pay that amount of money for a new smartphone. We may expect to see the new phone in September, but Apple may postpone its introduction and launch to October or November.
