Apple Inc. (AAPL) Tops U.S. Smartphone Market in June: [comScore]

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is the leading smartphone manufacturer in the United States for the second quarter, according to the latest survey released by comScore, an internet analytics firm.

Apple beats Samsung in the U.S.

Data from the analytics firm showed that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) had 42.1% market share of smartphone subscribers in the United States, an increase of 0.7% from 41.4% in the first-quarter.

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (KRX:005935) (LON:BC94) ranked second with 28.6% market share, an increase of 1.6% from 27% in the previous quarter. The South Korean smartphone manufacturer seemed capturing the market shares of its other competitors in the United States.

The survey showed that the market shares of other smartphone manufacturers such as LG Electronics Inc. (KRX:066570) dropped 0.3% to 6.4%, Motorola Mobility declined 0.5% to 5.9% and HTC Corp (TPE:2498) fell 0.6% to 4.8% during the period.

Android remains top smartphone platform

comScore’s survey also showed that the Android operating system of Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOG) remained as the number one mobile platform in the United States with 51.9% market share.

It is interesting to note that Android’s market share declined 0.3% from 52.2% in the previous quarter.

The iOS of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) remained the second widely used mobile platform in the U.S with 42.1% market share, up from 41.4% in the first-quarter.

The Windows Phone OS of Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) gained 0.1% to 3.4% while the BlackBerry 10 OS and Symbian from BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) dropped 0.3% and 0.% to 2.4% and 0.1%, respectively.

Facebook is the number one mobile app

When it comes to smartphone apps, Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) is the leading mobile app among adult users of both Android and iOS devices. The social network giant had 73.6% market share during the period.

YouTube, the video service of Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) ranked second with 52.1% market share. The search engine giant’s Google Play and Google Search mobile apps had 52.1% and 47.9% market shares. The Google Maps and Gmail mobile apps had 45.1% and 41.5% market shares, respectively.

Pandora Radio mobile app captured 45.6% market share while Instagram, the photo-sharing service of Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) gained 30.4% market share in the second-quarter.
