Apple Inc. (AAPL) Tightening Grip On Accessory Makers To Curb Leaks [Report]

With Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), there is one thing for sure that there will be plenty of rumors, leaks and speculations about the new and upcoming products. Many case makers such as Moshi make use of the pre-release specs to design their products, and use the same to allure us to buy their products. However, this could end soon.

If a new report is to be believed, we may not see much info ahead of time as the iPhone maker has asked the accessory makers to take info directly from the Apple to design or produce the cases or other accessories.

Apple agreement, a double-edged sword for accessory makers

According to 9to5Mac, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) late last year asked the accessory makers to take help of the company for getting the device schematics and blueprints instead of relying on the supply chain or other sources. As per the report, Apple demanded the leading accessory makers to sign an agreement that prohibits them to look out for the information on the upcoming Apple devices.

Such agreement, could be viewed as a loss-loss situation for the accessory makers. By not signing the agreement they risk the loss of future business opportunities from Apple, and on the hand, not signing it, could result in long delays for making the accessories like cases available, when they are most demanded i.e. during the time of the launch.

Apple to address two issues with one measure

Such a measure from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) could serve two purposes. First, it will help the iPhone make to curb down the leaks, secondly, it will also allow Apple to have a better control on the partners resulting in better accessories.

However, to effectively manage such control, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will have come out with a better way (may be Apple has found a way) to provide information to the accessory makers. Presently, official schematics are not made public, until the launch of the product. It has been seen that the iPhone fans do always cover their gadget in a case, and sometimes they buy the case even before the phone. Therefore, if the case maker waits till the launch to get schematics, one would have to wait for weeks after the launch to get a case for their favorite device.
