Apple Inc. (AAPL) Plans Occupying More Office Space In Sunnyvale

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s second office campus is already undergoing construction and is a massive one, but the iPhone maker does not look content. Now, the company has plans of acquiring more space for office and for this purpose it has leased a campus comprising of seven buildings that has the capacity of accommodating up to 1,450 employees, at Sunnyvale, as reported by San Jose Mercury News that cited the documents of the city and sources of the commercial property.

Close to ‘spaceship’ campus

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), at present is listed as a tenant only in one of the seven buildings, but it will occupy the other six buildings too as a part of its plan, reveal the city records. The company has filed applications for ‘interior improvements’ in all seven buildings and these building permit applications are yet to be approved by Sunnyvale’s city planning commission.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s second campus popularly known as ‘spaceship’ will accommodate around 14,200 employees and is 2.8 million square-foot in area. Three miles away from this, new leased campus office is situated spread over 290,000 square foot of area known as ‘Sunnyvale Crossing’ located near the Central Expressway and North Wolfe Road intersection. The duration of the lease is still unknown.

Growing workforce of Apple

Apple’s workforce is growing at a very good rate in the Silicon Valley and the expansion of office campus is a sign of this. A part of 150 acres new campus that is under construction has been bought from Hewlett-Packard. This project bears some resemblance with the ‘spaceship’ is estimated to be completed by 2016.

Founder Steve Jobs was looking forward to having the company headquarters at a new place and he noticed that the growth was enormous for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and the main campus could accommodate not more than 2800 employees. The company had around 12,000 employees and the nearby buildings that housed them were not very good.

The company launched its project called ‘spaceship’ for shifting the headquarters and within a month’s time, it went ahead with another project for the expansion of the office campus where it strike a deal for a campus spread over 373,000 square feet area which is located in the Results Way Corporate Center with a housing capacity of up to 1300 employees, and is not very far from the main offices of Apple.
