Apple Inc. (AAPL) Offers 50% Off On Watch To Employees

Apple Watch

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) sent an email to all its employees informing them that the company is offering them Apple Watch or Apple Watch Sport at a discount of 50%. The gold version can be obtained at a price that is reduced by $500. The letter offers the employees help about the product through keynotes, and is also supported with guided tours videos of Apple.

Offer for all employees at all locations

Cook informed the employees that the company is aware that Apple Watch is desired by many of its employees, and therefore, they are making it easy for them to own one. Cook informed via email, “Starting Friday, in countries where the watch is available for pre-order, a special Employee Purchase Plan will offer a 50% discount on any Apple Watch or Apple Watch Sport for your personal use.”

The discounts for the employees on Apple Watch models will go Live along with the preorder i.e. April 10. The employees at all the launch locations, who are willing to buy the smartwatch can avail the discount for 90 days after availability, and as the roll-out takes place in other countries, employees at those locations will also become eligible for the discount.

In the four days of last week, the company received more than 1000 Apple Watch apps as informed by the CEO Tim Cook in an email, a copy of which was obtained by MacRumors.

A generous offer from Apple

The discount offered by Apple is very generous. No such discounts were offered by Samsung. Minimal discounts were offered by Samsung to its employees while no discount was offered to the employees by Apple when it introduced iPad. The discount is secondary only to one occasion in Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s history, when it first introduced iPhones in 2007, and distributed it to all the employees for free. In these 8 years from 2007 up till 2015, the headcount at Apple has gone up substantially, and it will be very expensive for the company to hand it out for free to its employees.

The buyers of Apple Watch, who pre-order the device this Friday will get the device in two weeks’ time. Apple Watch buyers pre-ordering on April 10 can pick up the devices from brick and mortar stores of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) as informed by the company on its website.
