The PC market around the world is dominated by the Windows-based PCs. It does hold a strong position in the American continent and ranked consistently among the top five computer makers. Mac has been able to make its entry into the elite class because of the new releases made by Apple – MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.

Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) has put substantial efforts for making valuable updates to the Mac lineup, and the efforts have been successful. The company was not able to procure chips with significant upgrades from Intel. Hence, to compensate for the same, the company made additions to the memory and RAM of the devices or reduced the prices across the product line.

Most affordable notebooks from Apple

MacBook Air lineup, now, comes at a starting price of $899 making it the most affordable mass-market notebooks sold by Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL). Demand for PCs in mature markets coupled with reduced prices has led the company’s Mac devices to consistently outgrow the PC market.

IDC estimates that there could be a fall of 1.7% in the total PC shipments worldwide, but there has been an increase in the sales on year over year basis made by the top 5 PC vendors. The market is led by Lenovo with 15.7 million units shipped followed by HP making 14.7 million shipments, next is Dell with 10.4 million shipments and last was Acer with 6.6 million shipments. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) followed these brands to the fifth position. Results for the fourth fiscal quarter of 2014 will be declared by Apple on the 20th of October.
