Android 7.0 Nougat

Google generally releases their Android updates with Nexus, however they surprised us by rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat today as an update available to users with the Nexus 6P, Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 9, as well as the Pixel C tablets. Android 7.0 Nougat will also be available on the Nexus Player and Android One smartphone. So if you have one of those devices, expect an update available soon.

People who have been using the open beta Android 7.0 will notice that there aren’t that many differences, Google simply made the Android 7.0 Nougat OS more stable and simply added some changes to make it an overall solid OS. Some of the new features of Android 7.0 Nougat are new notifications from multitasking mode, notifications are now arranged by app, and you can reply directly via the notification. Multitasking mode allows you to run two applications at the same time, which is useful for tablets such as the Pixel C, however the experience on the smartphone is better than expected.

Android 7.0 Nougat also has some little features that help you personalize your device. For example, you can now customize the quick setting menu to include the apps you visit most, and tapping the multitasking button twice takes you to the recent apps you’ve visited.

Google have also improved on Doze mode, which was originally on Android Marshmallow. Originally, Doze mode would allow you to put your smartphone in a battery saving mode when the screen was off and the phone wasn’t moving. Now, Doze mode will stay on low-energy mode even if the phone was moving.

Software updates on Nougat are also handled in a much better way, by downloading it in the background and be there when you reboot your phone, rather than having to wait for software to install while your device is locked.

There are much more small features added in Android 7.0 Nougat, such as Google adding in an extra 72 emojis. However these are the ones that people will most likely want to know as soon as they update their Android device.
