Cristiano Ronaldo is hands down on top of the football world. The Portuguese player has had a wonderful year winning numerous trophies and awards. Now, how exactly can someone honor his success? Name an airport after him. Yes, you read it.

CR7 has the UCL, Premier League and La Liga trophies under his belt and a fierce rivalry against Lionel Messi with whom he battles for the Ballon D’Or award almost every single year.

Therefore the local government in Madeira (CR7 comes from there) came up with the idea to properly honor Cristiano. How? – By naming an airport after him!

Just like John Lennon now Ronaldo also has an airport named after him. To be precise, the Aeroporto Da Madeira. The signs were put on Friday, and the official unveiling is set to take place on March 29, one day after Portugal’s clash with Sweden in Funchal. This airport only adds to a hefty number of Ronaldo-related establishments that have sprung up in the past years.

Two hotels in Funchal and Lisbon have been opened and a museum in Madeira. Quite extraordinary marketing moves. Cristiano is currently with the Portuguese national team on their final preparations for the match against Sweden (friendly).

As we’ve mentioned Cristiano has had a great year, winning the Champions League and Euro 2016 and on top of that, he also took the Ballon D’Or in December, so these things are nothing out of the ordinary. Besides, he will also be featured on a ‘FlyEmirates’ airplane among his teammates from Real Madrid.

We just hope that they don’t spoil him too much which could affect his performance as he is to take on Bayern Munich in quarter-finals of the UCL on April 12.
