For all of you who have been on the edge of their seats to hear something about Age of Empires 4, we have some good news – Microsoft has recently officially announced that the following sequel of the strategy game franchise will be delivered. They broke the news at Gamescom expo in Germany but did not reveal the exact release date.

What we do know is that Age of Empires IV will be developed by Relic Entertainment, unlike the original title, which was created by Ensemble Studios. Relic Entertainment has already launched a couple of successful projects, including Company of Heroes and Dawn of War series.

Even though you’ll have to wait for the release date for some time, you can watch the trailer and get a sneak peek at some elements the title will feature. For instance, judging by the trailer, we can conclude that Age of Empires IV will present several different periods throughout the history, including Romans, Native Americans, Japanese Samurai, and Conquistadors. The game will feature different armies and numerous epic battles.

The company alone expressed how satisfied they are to bring this new title to life: “We couldn’t be more proud to be a part of the legacy. We can’t wait to tap into our strengths as a studio to fuse historical context with deep strategic game play, and to bring this franchise back to the forefront of gaming and into the hands of its beloved community.”

Believe it or not, it has been twenty years since the first Age of Empires game was released, so bringing a remastered edition of it after so long is quite a big deal, which means that the expectations will be rather high. But, we have no doubts Relic Entertainment will live up to them.

While waiting for the company to reveal the official release date, stay tuned for more news about the upcoming game. We promise we’ll keep you updated.
