Ram is going to present the new 1500 full-size pickup in January at the Detroit Motor Show, and the last time it was seen, the camouflage was stripped off almost entirely. As we are waiting for the new model, the American carmaker is preparing the larger Heavy Duty version. The 1500 is going to be ready for next year, but new 2500 and 3500 will be 2024 models.
The new truck has been seen, but it is still in the early stage of development, and it is even equipped with the parts of the ongoing vehicle. The pickups have always been large work mules, but they have become even bigger lately, and their role has changed slightly. And Ram is offering precisely that – size. This is a good thing because their newest member will be able to tow, haul and drive on any kind of road.
Engine
When it comes to the engines, rumor has it that the company could get rid of the 5.7-liter V8 good for 383 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque in the ongoing HD models. This powerplant may not be in the new HDs, but it will be packed under the hood of the Ram 1500. The new Heavy Duty is going to receive a 6.4-liter V8 that delivers 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. This unit should also be featured in the new generation of Ram 2500 Power Wagon.
If you are looking for a diesel engine, expect the 6.7-liter turbocharged V8 from Cummins that is going to produce incredible 930 lb-ft of torque. Since the amount of torque is insane, you will be able to haul more than 30,000 pounds, which is astounding. The pickups sales are increasing, and the entire light truck market is up 5.2 percent. Meanwhile, Ram has sold 374,901 pickups, which is a solid increase compared to the last year.
2020 Ram 2500/3500 Release Date
The 2024 Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty trucks will arrive in either late 2018 or early 2019.
