Well, thank God for answering our prayers finally! Well, God and the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, because that is where the Ford company officially confirmed that a midsize 4×4 2022 Ford Bronco will make a comeback.
Since this project is all cloak-and-dagger, no real specifications, numbers, design cues or anything else for that matter was revealed. All that was shown is the Bronco graphic. Only revealed info was that the 2022 SUV will be built in the US, at Ford’s Michigan Assembly Plant, but that’s info that most of us already knew.
Ford’s Joe Hinrichs, though, did give a statement saying that Bronco will be “a no-compromise midsize 4×4 utility for the thrill-seekers who want freedom and off-road functionality, with the space and versatility of an SUV. It’s capable of conquering everything from your daily commute to gravel roads and boulders.” To make this statement more dramatic and interesting, while Hinrichs was saying this, images of rocky, technical off-road trails were flashing behind his back on a big screen.
One more, highly anticipated, vehicle was unveiled yesterday at the Auto Show in Detroit, and it’s the 2019 Ford Ranger that is also going to be built in Michigan Assembly Plant right next to the Bronco. This could probably mean that the Bronco might be based on the Ranger SUV since Hinrichs did announce it as a midsize, off-road-capable 4×4, which is just in the Ranger ballpark, but we will have to be patient and see how things develop.
As you recall, the Bronco and Ranger have been followed for a long time and reported to return to Ford’s lineup of vehicles for even longer. The first partially official hint that they might actually happen was the statement from the United Auto Workers representative who unwillingly revealed that Ford’s union contract included Bronco and Ranger plans back in October of 2016. But this here is definitely the official as it gets since Ford confirmed that the vehicles are happening, where they are produced and when they are going to debut. Triple treat right there!
