If someone told you twenty years ago that Lamborghini would one day produce an SUV, would you believe that? Well, we probably wouldn’t have but it is the year 2018, and the automotive industry is changing so that move, of course, isn’t a big deal anymore. Lamborghini is working on an SUV called Urus, and according to the company, this will be one of the best looking, fastest and most powerful SUVs when it hits the road in a few months time. And we believe that they will deliver on their promise.

2019 Lamborghini Urus will be the second SUV coming from Lambo’s kitchen. Its predecessor goes by the name of LM002, and you probably don’t remember it. So let’s see what we are in store for when it comes to the Urus!

A rumor of Lamborghini making a debut at the SUV scene has been around for some time now. In 2012 we saw the first concept at the Beijing International Auto Show, and ever since then, we’ve been teased with spy shots and many other delicacies that would make us go nuts and hyped.

The Urus will utilize the trademark supercar-driven performance that can be found in all Lambos and not only will it be quick but it will also be gorgeous! We’ve already seen the majority of production styling in the 2012 concept, and fresh spy shots only confirm our speculations about its angular look.

We’ll post a few shots here for you to see yourself how the production version might look like. It is based on the original concept, however, we saw that there are some updated angles and shapes which make the Urus quite modern and gorgeous vehicle.

The front fascia is dominated by an angular grille and a sharp nose which resembles Aventador and Huracan. The lower end of the front segment will be just as tough featuring two angular vents and a lower central vent which is there to aid the airflow management and overall engine cooling.

Sleek LED lights dominate on the back of the Urus combined with quad exhaust tips and a short rear window. There will also be a camera in the back which will be a part of the standard package. Its sporty look will surely be perpetuated by huge wheels and low center of gravity. The company also promised that the Urus will look even better than the original concept, and knowing Lambo, we trust that they will fulfill their promise.

Now that we’ve covered looks let’s see what’s under the hood. Lamborghini Urus features a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 that can produce 650 horsepower (484 kilowatts). Note that this engine makes the Urus quickest SUV around the Nurburgring! However, variations of powertrains could make this beast even faster which could catapult it in competition with rivals such as the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.

Lamborghini even promised a plug-in hybrid model that is supposed to join the lineup in 2019. That would be one year after the standard gas model arrives. Considering that rivals such as the Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid is coming soon and it will make as much as 671 hp we expect the Urus to match its performance figures.

There have been rumors about an all-electric version, but we should warn you not to expect the same technology transferred to a sports car!

Price-wise, the Lamborghini Urus will cost around $200,000 when it arrives. 1,000 units built in 2018 is a possibility before going to 3,500 units in 2019. The company estimated that at full production the Urus would account for half of the Italian supercar maker’s annual output which is a lot. But again, knowing Lamborghini, they’ll be good for their word.

Pre-production stage of the Urus started in April last year at Lambo’s Sant’Agata factory in Bologna, however, the production version won’t debut until December 4, 2017. The Italian automaker focuses on the US and China market with the Urus, but it will still have its debut worldwide.
