We all have fond memories of the original Ford Focus from 1998, it was quite an innovation at the time. Planned as a substitution for the Escort the fresh new style and great handling was a real kick in the teeth to the competition in the 90s.
However, later models from the Focus lineup neither produced the hype nor the outstanding quality like the original, but we do know that the company is currently working on their 4th generation car. Can they make a comeback worthy of our attention? Can they outdo the competition? Let’s see.
We’ve acquired some photos of the 2019 Ford Focus ST, and it looks a bit similar to its younger brother Ford Fiesta. There are some differences such as deeper headlights which give out the look of danger and handsomeness.
Among the most noticeable changes, we have a long hood and Hofmeister Kink similar to the BMW. They paid attention to proportions which is good. On the back end, we can see that the company introduced a pair of horizontal, two-piece taillights that stretch over the hatch opening.
2019 Ford Focus ST Interior
The new Focus will run on a modified variation of Ford’s global C-car platform, but we strongly believe that the company will improve NVH, safety levels, and last but not least cabin space. It is expected for it to deliver pedestrian detection system and pre-collision warning.
The current model had some features in the interior which looked a bit cheap and it is good that Ford got rid of it. We are sure that the company will breathe in some ‘premium’ into this new Focus. They’ll probably go for soft touch plastics, numerous levels of kit and modern styling (similar to latest Fiesta but better) topped by a floating 8″ touchscreen.
Under the hood
This car will feature Ford’s latest 1.0-litre, three cylinder engine in refined with the usage of the turbocharger. The result is a small but efficient unit. After that base version, they’ll probably go for 1.5-litre turbo four which will be accompanied by a couple of diesels, those would likely have 1.5 and 2.0-litre capacity. We still don’t know whether the company will offer an Electric powertrain option for this Focus, but as soon as we get some info we’ll let you know.
For those who love speed, Ford promised 2.0-litre EcoBoost four engine under the hood of the sportier version. But for those who are eagerly waiting for more power in RS guise, we have some bad news. That car won’t appear anytime soon.
2019 Ford Focus ST Release Date
We speculate that this car will be presented in early 2018 and its launch will be in the second half of the year. It will have variations which will include sedan, hatch, wagon and a crossover-like Active. This one is expected to have increased ride-height, possible all-wheel drive and extra cladding.
The potential rivals of this vehicle consist of names such as Mazda 3, Volkswagen Golf, Honda Civic, Subaru Impreza, Vauxhall Astra, Chevrolet Cruze, Skoda Octavia and Toyota Corolla (we’ll have some info on Corolla soon).
