2019 BMW 3 Series Will Lose Some Weight

BMW needs to improve its 3 Series in order to compete against the new Alfa Romeo Giulia, so the new generation car simply must step up. The first thing for the 2019 BMW 3 Series is to lose some weight – 88 pounds to be more precise. This means that more lightweight materials such as aluminum and carbon fiber reinforced plastic will be used for the body and this losing weight procedure will be possible because the new model will be based on the CLAR platform which already underpins its bigger brothers the 5 Series and 7 Series.

Besides this, the new BMW 3 Series is expected to be more muscular, and the new 0.5-liter engine kit will produce slightly more horsepower than in the current version. The gasoline engines are going to increase the output by 7 hp and 15 lb-ft of torque whereas the CO2 emission will be lowered by five percent.

When it comes to the diesel units, the base 316d will jump from 113 to 134 ponies, whereas the bigger 318d will have a complete output of 160 hp in the new car. We are not done with the diesel lineup yet as there is also the 320d which will generate 201 hp which is a 14-hp growth compared to its predecessor, while 220 hp that is coming from the 325d will go up to 234 hp.

Furthermore, the 2019 BMW 3 Series in its 330e plug-in hybrid variant will also be updated – from 248 hp to 261 horsepower, and this model will be joined by slightly weaker 325e that should bring 226 hp. The German manufacturer plans to add the M340i and M340d to the range in order to fill the emptiness between the non-M versions and the flagship M3.
