The first SUV has just been introduced by Mercedes-Maybach, and although many people expected to see a vehicle based on the GLS, that didn’t happen, and it is the G-Class we are dealing with here. At first, it was thought that the G-Class would be a pickup, but it turned out to be a new open-top model that would join the Maybach family.

The name of the vehicle is 2018 Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet, and it has been shown at the Geneva Auto Show. Although it looks like a truck, it is basically a sedan with a part of the roof that can be folded for open-air driving experience for the backseat passengers. Just to remind you that Maybach revealed a Landaulet version of its 62 sedan when it was an independent brand.

The closed roof is above the front passengers in the G650 Landaulet, while that section above the rear seats, which are, by the way, taken out of the S-Class, are covered by a soft top that opens and closes with a single push of a button. The rear end is separated from the driver’s section by a partition glass, which is also controlled by a switch. Moreover, the glass comes with an electronic tint feature if you want to increase privacy.

Among other features, there are temperature controlled cup holders, two 10-inch entertainment screens, and folding tables, whereas the rear seats even have a massage function. Some of the high-quality elements include upscale leather trim with diamond stitching, chrome-plating, while the driver can choose between three different colors for the roof.

The running gear of the G500 4×4 has also been installed in the G650 Landaulet, and in this case, we are getting sports carbon-fiber fenders and high-riding portal axles with almost 18 inches of ground clearance. Under the hood of this machine is a twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12 good for incredible 621 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque.

2018 Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet Price

The price tag of the 2018 Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet remains unknown, but it will definitely go over G500 4×4 $225,925 starting price. In addition, only 99 units of the new model will be produced, and if you are interested in purchasing one, the deliveries will kick off in the fall of this year. The modified G-Class is about to arrive, and the G650 Landaulet is a proper send-off to the original that has been here since 1979. This is without any doubt a great collector’s sample.
