In the recent several years, the popularity of large SUVs has increased, and even though they have always been with us, people seem to love them a lot today. One of those big haulers that have stuck with us since the 1990s is the Ford Expedition. Ever since it was introduced, the Expedition has been a really strong seller, but time has come for this fellow to be redesigned, considering that its competitors have changed a lot.

Weight Loss. Or Not?

And finally, Ford decided to modify the 2018 Ford Expedition which comes with excellent exterior and interior, while there have been some other upgrades as well. First of all, what is important for this vehicle is that aluminum has been used for the body panels, which means that the new Expedition is lighter than the previous model. Although they used aluminum for the body, the frame of this car is made out of steel. So, with the careful use of lightweight components, Ford managed to produce the new version that is 300 pounds lighter, but that is not really the case because of all the new technologies located inside.

Expedition Exterior

The exterior is definitely influenced by the latest Explorer, and it looks luxurious and polished, which is especially true for the range-topping Platinum model. The first thing we notice is the crossover-like nose and a cheese grater style front grille with the chrome trim piece and Ford’s logo in the middle. There is a smooth transition between the grille and the LED headlights. If you take a look at this vehicle from the profile, it resembles the Lincoln Navigator concept because of a strong character line that is located under the side windows.

Rich Cabin

The exterior of the 2018 Ford Expedition is really good-looking, but the magic is inside the cabin. Here you can find soft high-quality leather, light wood trim, and abundance of technology, which gave the brand-new Expedition a significant step forward. Some of the features you can find on the new SUV are a panoramic sunroof that stretches over two rows of seats, wireless phone charger, standard USB chargers, and connectivity for all three rows. The new Expedition will be equipped with company’s SYNC 3 infotainment system that has both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, whereas the passengers can relax with the sounds coming from a 12-speaker audio system produced by Bang & Olufsen.

Space

Even though Ford Expedition has always been large, it now boasts more space inside with easy access to the second and third row of seats. If you want to go and sit in the third row, all you need to do is to slide the second row and tip them forward without removing a child’s seat if it’s installed. A real rival of the Suburban is the 2018 Ford Expedition MAX, which is even more spacious than others vehicles in the lineup as it comes with the even longer body.

2018 Expedition Engine

Under the hood of the 2018 Ford Expedition, there is a 3.5-liter twin-turbo engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission that sends power either to the rear wheels or all four. The gearbox was developed by Ford and General Motors together, and it first debuted in the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor and the 2017 Chevy Camaro ZL1. Furthermore, Blue Oval added adaptive suspension and a rear locker, which should be helpful if you plan to drive this vehicle on rough terrain with a limited amount of grip. Ford included its Terrain Management System which allows you to choose between seven driving modes such as Normal, Sport, Two/Haul, Eco, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Sand and Mud/Ruts. Performance and fuel efficiency figures remain unknown.

2018 Ford Expedition Price

Ford keeps us in the dark when it comes to pricing, but we will find out closer to the launch that is expected to happen this fall. We suspect that the new model will be more expensive compared to its predecessor which starts at $46,225 and the main reason for the increase is added technology. Stay tuned for more details.
