2018 BMW i8 Spyder Tested In The Snow

BMW revealed several concepts which were supposed to show the look of the new i8 model without a roof and the German manufacturer has always openly talked about an open-top version. The latest spy photos bring us the 2018 BMW i8 Spyder which is close to a production-ready look and even though these were tested on the snowy roads of Sweden, don’t expect to see many vehicles in weather conditions that cold, once they go on sale.

Compared to the coupe, the Spyder comes without a rear glass instead of which, nacelles run behind the seats. It is difficult to talk about the prototype’s exterior because it wears heavy camouflage, which is no wonder since we are talking about the refreshed body for the i8. The car you can see in the photo comes with a simpler front fascia design, which is just another way to make the Spyder version unique.

According to last year’s report, the redesigned 2018 BMW i8 Spyder is supposed to go on sale sometime in 2017. Besides exterior changes, the new hybrid sports car will come with additional 15 hp, which means that the complete output of the powertrain will be bumped to 372 hp. A battery might also be updated, but that is not confirmed. For example, the ongoing model features a 7.1 kWh pack, while the version of the i8 that does safety car work for Formula E comes with a 10 kWh one.

Some recent spy shots also reveal that German automaker is putting a revamped i3 to the tests. Even though BMW is doing a tremendous job when it comes to covering their test vehicles and prototypes, it appears that i3 will come with a modified front bumper. We also expect to see a sporty i3S within the lineup, which will offer more power and improved suspension.
