We all knew it from before that new Audi A5 will have three different versions. The first two have already been seen, but a wait for the third one was a bit prolonged. Now the time has finally come, and German car maker revealed 2018 Audi A5 Cabriolet to the public.

This early revelation came in the form of photos, but the true introduction of this model will be at 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. The model will be presented in both standard and a sportier S trim. Like we said, there are three editions and all three will be showcased at LA. If you don’t know the rest of the lineup, it consists of Audi A5 Sportback and Audi A5 Coupe.

Design wise there isn’t many surprises. The 2018 Audi A5 Convertible features standard Audi lines with the all-around sportier look. Soft-top is the part that was improved with the addition of extra insulation to prevent penetration of traffic and wind noise. Like before the soft top will be fully automated and will feature one-touch opening function which enables you to open or close the roof with only one touch. The cover can be tucked away and deployed while driving at a maximum speed of 30mph. Packing is done in 18 seconds while the opening takes only 15. Impressive!

There will be two powertrain options offered. For the base model, you will have turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four with 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque while the S version will feature turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 354 hp and 369 lb-ft. The more powerful model will have the ability to accelerate 0-60 in 5.1 seconds and to reach the electronically limited top speed of 155mph. Nothing is official yet but in not so distant future RS5 should also get a cabriolet version that will outpace this numbers with ease.

Did you hear about Audi A9?

Like with all of the new Audi models, the platform will be sourced from Volkswagen; the MLB chassis was created for FWD and longitudinally placed engines. The car, in general, is not light as it could be with a weight of the slimmest model being around 3,725 lb. But, taking into account that car is now longer, wider and bigger in every sense they managed the weight very well.

Interior will be equipped with top-notch tech and high-quality materials. Dashboard will feature digital instrument cluster and head-up display. Seat belts will be equipped with microphones for voice activation, something we are not used to seeing in this price range. These are rumored to work even while the roof is down and the car is moving at top speed. Cargo space will be decent for this type of vehicle. With the top down, it will boast amazing 13.4 cubic feet of storage.

As you already know, this version will arrive in 2017 as 2018 model. With introduction, summer doesn’t seem so far away now.
