Well, folks with this one you do not need open straight paved roads. Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro just screams dirt, and for the first time in Canada it is going to stand for the 4Runner line-up for the 2017 model year, and it will also offer the new TRD OFF-ROAD package.

“The 4Runner is an authentic, body-on-frame SUV that already has a solid and well-deserved global reputation as a truck that can tackle just about any terrain on the planet – and with the enhancements included on the TRD Pro edition, it’s ready to conquer the rest” this is the statement that was given by Cyril Dimitris, Vice President of Toyota Canada Inc. He added “We’re pleased to offer Canadians this true off-road warrior as part of our expanded TRD Pro series, which also includes the Tundra and Tacoma pick-up trucks. The 2017 4Runner TRD Pro combines rugged performance upgrades with styling to match its awesome capabilities”. As you probably know the 2017 Toyota 4Runner is an impressive vehicle just as is, but the engineers at Toyota Racing Development (TRD) decided to add a long list of features that will help it travel well beyond paved roads and offer the TRD Pro model.

Some of the special TRD options that made on the 2017 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro are TRD-tuned front springs, TRD Bilstein high-performance shocks with rear remote reservoirs, and 31.5 inch Nitto Terra Grappler all-terrain tires on 17-inch matte black aluminum wheels with TRD center caps. When it comes to style, the TRD enhancements include a heritage Toyota grille, TRD shift knob, TRD Pro-badge floor mats, black TRD Pro badging on the C-pillar and tailgate, TRD-stamped aluminum front skid plate, black accents on the front and rear bumpers, and much more.

All of this just comes as addition to already impressive performance and style found on the Toyota 4Runner TRD OFF-ROAD edition that has 4-wheel crawl control, lever-type 4WD selector, four-setting multi-terrain select system, company’s Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System, multi-terrain ABS, high-visibility Optitron instrumentation, black seats with red stitching, a hood scoop, TRD logo on the front headrests, and black end caps for the roof rails.

As it is a custom over at Toyota, the 2017 model is, just as its predecessor, powered with a beast of an engine – the 4.0L V6 unit that can produce up to 270 HP and up to 278 lb-ft of torque and has been proven many times before. This powerplant is paired with, nothing less impressive, five-speed automatic electronically controlled transmission with lock-up torque converter and transmission cooler. This beast of a vehicle can tow up to 2,268 kg (5,000 lb) and has, as a standard part of the equipment, a hitch plus four pin and seven pin trailer wiring harnesses.

Since this is more off-road vehicle, its on-demand 4WD, suspension specially designed for driveability, robustness and ride comfort as well as advanced control technologies such as hill start assist control and downhill assist control make this one behave surprisingly well on the road as well off it with front and rear ventilated disc brakes providing more than enough stopping power. The company decided to offer this one in five configurations including:

– 2017 Toyota 4Runner SR5,
– 2017 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro and
– 2017 Toyota 4Runner OFF-ROAD,
– 2017 Toyota 4Runner Limited 5-Passenger and
– 2017 Toyota 4Runner Limited 7-Passenger.
