2017 Subaru WRX Update Introduced in the USA

The 2017 Subaru WRX and the WRX STI have been upgraded, and in the US they will come with a sportier design, while there have been some modifications under the skin as well. Both cars are equipped with the new front bumper, sculpted air intakes and redesigned grille all of which adds aggressiveness.

Subaru WRX Engine

The WRX keeps the 2.0-liter turbo engine with direct injection that produces 199 kW and the WRX STI also remains with the 227 kW 2.5-liter turbo unit. However, both models have seen some suspension changes that are supposed to improve steering and stability of the vehicle.

An electric power steering system has been modified in the WRX for a “more natural feel, ” and an “enhanced shifter feel” for the six-speed manual gearbox. The range-topping in the US comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers and Recaro seats with eight-way power adjustment, while the Jurid brake pads have been updated.

On the other hand, the STI sports 19-inch alloy wheels with 245/35 tires and better Driver Controlled Centre Differential AWD system. In addition, an all-electronic setup comes instead of the mechanical and electronic control mechanism for the central limited-slip differential. Brembo brake package is better in the new model, while new brake pads, yellow calipers, and larger drilled discs are some of the parts that have been improved as well.

Interior

The interior of the both Subaru WRX and WRX STI has also been changed, as they will feature different door grips, faster boot opener, a foam-filled windscreen header beam and new door seals. Moreover, a rear seat armrest comes with cupholders, while across the interior decent amount of new materials have been used.

The WRX and WRX STI will come with a 5.9-inch multifunction display that is located in the instrument cluster center, whereas top-shelf models will be equipped with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Release Date

In the US, the Subaru WRX and WRX STI will hit the market in the second quarter of 2017.
