2017 Skoda Kodiaq SE L – Everything you need to know

New Skoda Kodiaq offers something for everyone – from the latest technology to competitive prices. It comes with five or seven seats and the price for the base model is luring, but as you go up the trim levels, the price increases notably. Speaking of Skoda, they have improved significantly over the last few years, and the 2017 Skoda Kodiaq is a real deal. The sales of their vehicles have grown drastically, and they have offered superb quality, so the customers are happy with their cars.

However, this is the new step for this company, and hopefully, the quality of the vehicle will cause high sales. Skoda Superb proved that the Czech manufacturer can compete against some of the best carmakers and the upper trims of this model are, let’s just say, superb. This just proves us how much has Skoda improved in the last decade.

The 2017 Skoda Kodiaq SE L

The 2017 Skoda Kodiaq base trim is expected to be the top-seller in the UK. However, we will focus on the SE L version and see what it brings to the table. Maybe it would sound like a cliché if we said that we are getting one vehicle which stayed true to the Skoda values. However, this is correct, and there is no doubt that people would wait in queues for a car like this. The new offer is really appealing, and it offers many commodities.

Engine and Driving Experience

The SE L is a terrific vehicle if you plan to transport things or tow something. The base trim comes with a 2.0-liter diesel engine and here the already tested and proven unit produces more horsepower and torque perfect for big loads. To be more specific, this powerplant delivers 187 bhp and 295 lb-ft of torque, and it is paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission.

Although it isn’t something we expected from Skoda, the 2017 Kodiaq is fun to drive. The carmaker sometimes used to focus more on comfort rather on driving, but it seems that the new car behaves well on the road. Compared to some other SUVs the Kodiaq is pretty stable in the corners and the grip is decent as well. It certainly isn’t the most enjoyable and thrilling to drive, but there is a visible improvement regarding driving and handling.

Three different driving modes are offered, but none of them is perfect, though. You can choose between Normal, Comfort, and Sport. If you pick the Normal mode, the ride is firm, but the steering is not so great, compared to a Comfort mode where the ride is fine, but the steering is light. Sport mode is the only mode with direct steering that returns good feel, but, if the road is not so smooth, you might regret the fact you chosen it. This is the only issue of the 2017 Skoda Kodiaq, and we think that the car maker could achieve better balance.

The Cabin

The interior is fashionable and comfortable. The car is equipped with glass-fronted 8.0-inch Columbus touchscreen infotainment system. In addition, there are seven seats in the SE L, which are standard. The cabin is also spacious, and if you lower the third row of seats, you will get enormous space in the trunk. There is enough legroom for the passengers in the middle row as well as for the passengers in the last row of seats but don’t expect them to enjoy the ride fully.

There are many reasons to buy the 2017 Skoda Kodiaq SE L. First of all, Czech company offers comfortable interior and it is quite usable for people who need the car for transporting of equipment. Secondly, the driving is satisfactory, even surprisingly good and there is more to it than it meets the eye. If you disregard some of the minor issues such as driving modes or if you don’t want the most powerful engine in the class, we highly recommend this car.

Some of the rivals might be Kia Sorento, Nissan X-Trail or Mitsubishi Outlander. The 2017 Skoda Kodiaq even managed to upset Land Rover Discovery Sport a bit. It does have some downsides, indeed, but the quality is guaranteed. The starting price of the SE L version is £28,595.
