As it was announced before, Mazda’s new CX-5 has arrived, and its production is already well underway in Japan while the plans regarding its arrival Stateside are set for late March. The 2017 Mazda CX-5 will be somewhat pricier than the last year’s model but, to justify that, it will offer a lot more standard tech. The price set for this “middle child” in the American CUV lineup will go from $24,985 (after $940 destination fees).

2017 Mazda CX-5 Engine

If you caught the unveil, then you probably know that it was exclusively available with 2.5-liter four cylinder unit capable of producing 187 HP (139 kilowatts) and 185 pound-feet (251 Newton-meters) of torque while the six-speed automatic gearbox is the only option (manual is scratched). It will be offered in Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring trims with FWD or AWD which will be a $1,300 option. Mazda also made a promise regarding the 2.2 L diesel four-cylinder unit, and they will definitely keep it, but you will have to wait until the second half of the year to test it out, Mazda also promised a lot more info regarding that engine close before its arrival.

Trims

The Sport trim of the 2017 Mazda CX-5 will be $490 more expensive than 2016 MY ( was $24,495 after $900 destination fee) but it will justify that by bringing you additional standard features. These will include full LED headlights, Smart City Brake Support (slows the CUV between 2 and 19 MPH (3 to 31 km/h) to prevent a collision), G-Vectoring Control (adjusts engine torque for improved steering stability when cornering) and a reclining second-row seat.

The Touring trim will start at $26,855, and it will offer its owner a dual-zone climate control, air conditioning vents for the second row, and USB ports for folks sitting at the back as well, and opposed to the Sport trim’s cloth seats, the Touring trim will bring leatherette upholstery with Lux Suede inserts. For additional comfort, you will have another luxury addition, and that is heated front seats with six-way power adjustment for the driver’s seat.

Japanese car maker did something really great by allowing buyers to add more tech and luxury to the new CX-5 through two packages – the $780 Preferred Equipment Package (includes – auto-dimming rearview mirror, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a Bose 10-speaker stereo, navigation, moonroof, and power hatchback). Second, the i-Activesense Package for $625 that includes – automatic high beams, lane departure warning, radar cruise control, and automatic emergency braking for highway speeds + automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, and auto dimming rearview mirror from the Preferred Equipment Package.

The Grand Touring trim that will set you back for $30,335 is a range topper and will pick up right where the fully optioned Touring model left off. This means adaptive front lights, upgraded headlights with LED signature lamps, LED fog lights and LED taillights. It will ride on 19-inch wheels and the leather interior, while the driver has 8-way seat power controls, and that including lumbar adjustment as well. But if this is not enough you can opt for a Grand Touring Premium Package that adds $1,830 to the vehicle’s price, but in return gives you two-position memory for the driver’s seat, a six-way power adjustable passenger seat, a head-up display with traffic sign recognition, heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, and a windshield de-icer.

To enhance the exterior appearance in the same way as the interior you can opt for the three-layer Soul Red Crystal paint to any trim for $595. But there is an alternative to that too, and it is the Snow Flake Pearl Mica shade that costs $200 extra on any model. It seems that Japanese brand has really put a lot of effort in the 2017 Mazda CX-5 and they are certainly trying to show it. We just know that we can’t wait to get behind the wheel of one and report back the feel and comfort it actually offers! Make sure to stay tuned for that!
