Until recently, safety hasn’t been an important factor, or at least not one of the most important factors when you want to buy a new car. Nowadays, luckily, safety is an essential aspect you might even check first. In the past, you would usually purchase a pickup truck if you needed to carry something for work, but now, these trucks are fashionable with luxurious details and amazing looks. These facts are only showing how much did the market change.

The 2017 Honda Ridgeline is the only pickup that has earned the Top Safety Pick+ by the IIHS. This is a great accomplishment for Honda, but we have got used to them winning Top Safety Pick awards all the time.

For example, Honda Accord Sedan and Honda Pilot earned this prize. Both of these cars had Honda Sensing as the notable safety features, whereas the Accord also had great projector beam halogen lights, whereas the Pilot boasted LED headlights. Besides these models, three additional Hondas also won this prestigious badge.

The IIHS changed the criteria by which they evaluate headlights in particular. That is why it is difficult to earn Top Safety Pick+ and in 2016 only 38 cars received it. Nine vehicles from Toyota managed to win Top Safety Pick+ while Honda is at second place with five of their vehicles.

Check out the video of the 2017 Honda Ridgeline crash test here. The truck looks totaled, but the passengers would be safe if they crashed like this, and they would probably escape the accident with minor bruises.
