The 2017 Golden Globe ceremony took place on January 8, and here are some winners as well as losers of the 74th Golden Globe Award. This event was hosted by Jimmy Fallon and Meryl Streep that stole the spotlight when she talked about the president-elect Donald Trump. Let’s taka a look.

Winners

La La Land

La La Land broke the record with seven wins: Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy), Best Actor (Ryan Gosling), Best Actress (Emma Stone), Best Screenplay and Best Director (Damien Chazelle), Best Score (Justin Hurwitz), and Best Original Song (“City of Stars”). This movie is followed by Midnight Express (1978) and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975) since both of this films won six awards.

La La Land reminds us a bit of The Artist from 2011, and it comes to no surprise to see this title won seven awards. The audience also loved La La Land, and these awards will only reinforce the popularity of this movie.

Streaming Television

The Golden Globes are generally friendlier to streaming television than the Emmys, and during this ceremony, we had a chance to see Billy Bob Thornton winning Lead Actor for Amazon’s Goliath. Moreover, Lead Actress award belonged to Claire Foy for Netflix’s The Crown, which also won the Series prize.

This year Amazon struggled in comedy categories considering that in the past, Transparent and Mozart in the Jungle were announced winners.

British People on TV

The British people marked the 2017 Golden Globes awards ceremony. Tom Hiddleston, Olivia Colman, and Hugh Laurie won the award for The Night Manager. In addition, The Crown managed to beat Westwood, This is Us and Stranger Things. Game of Thrones was the fifth nominee, and it only won one Golden Globe in 2012 for Peter Dinklage’s performance.

40+ Actresses

Sarah Paulson, Olivia Colman, Tracee Ellis Ross, Isabelle Huppert and Viola Davis are the actresses over 40 who won the awards. Emma Stone (28) was thus considered to be the outlier of the awards ceremony. Furthermore, Meryl Streep received the Cecil B. DeMille Award, which recognizes “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.”

Losers

Every Movie Except La La Land

La La Land dominated the show and it put other great movies in the shadow. Manchester By the Sea and Moonlight took home an acting award for Casey Affleck and Best Picture respectively. On the other hand, Hacksaw Ridge and Hell or High Water ended the ceremony empty-handed. Moana was closed to winning Best Animated Film and Best Original Song, but Zootopia and La La Land took over these awards.

HBO

Although there were a lot of nominations for TV Shows such as Westworld, Game of Thrones, The Night Of, and many others, not a single award was handed to HBO. Yes, the competition was tough, but they deserved at least one.

Moonlight

The movie called Moonlight won the trophy for Best Motion Picture, and although it won an award, we expected more from this fantastic drama. This film was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Mahershala Ali and Best Screenplay, but these awards somehow didn’t go to Moonlight. Aaron Taylor-Johnson won the Best Supporting Actor, while guess who won the Best Screenplay? Of course, it’s the La La Land. Nevertheless, we believe that the Moonlight will shine at the Oscars, but the movie should have won at least one additional award at the Golden Globes.

Jimmy Fallon

Jimmy Fallon might be the perfect host for events like the Golden Globes – he is handsome, funny and his appearance is something it cannot go unnoticed. However, at the Golden Globes in 2017, he was kind of overshadowed. He did crack a few jokes here and there, but he was not that funny. After all the event was not about Jimmy Fallon, so him “disappearing” was not that big deal.
