The 2017 Ford Focus Electric model will hit the US market during the next year. The new model will come with an upgraded battery, which will increase the range of the vehicle.

The current Focus Electric features a 23 kWh battery which allows the car to cross only 76 miles per one charge. The new model will come out with a 33.5 kWh battery, and the total range of the new vehicle will be 115 miles. There are of course better electric vehicles than Ford Focus, but this is a significant improvement.

The 2017 Ford Focus Electric will go against Volkswagen e-Golf and Renault Zoe. The e-Golf can go 124 miles without recharging, whereas the Zoe is better – it can cross 186 miles. Overall, the new Ford’s model should remain unchanged. The same motor as in the current version is expected, and the design of the vehicle will be completely identical.

This Blue Oval EV is offered in Great Britain, but it cannot be bought since it is only a demonstrative sample. According to the Ford spokesperson, the carmaker still has to consider whether they will start with the sales in the UK or not.

The company will use the Combined Charging System (CCS), which has been popular among electric vehicles. Every carmaker that produces EV’s uses this system except Tesla Motors. Although this is good news, the new Ford Focus will have a really tiny trunk. They should have tried to relocate their charger, just like the Nissan did in 2013 with their model Leaf.

The Ford Focus Electric has not been so popular and fewer than 7,000 units have been delivered in a five-year period in California. However, the drive is enjoyable, and the interior of the vehicle is of a high-quality. What do you think about the 2017 Ford Focus Electric? Would you choose this one or you would opt for some of the competitors?
