The new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is equipped with the V8 engine that produces 650 horsepower, and it is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission that is said to shift faster than Porsche’s PDK. The top speed of the new Camaro ZL1 is 198 mph (318 km/h) which makes it the “fastest Camaro ever.”

Chevrolet’s engineers went to the High-Speed Oval at Germany’s Automotive Testing Papenburg proving ground in order to test the new Camaro ZL1 and see how fast it is. They drove the Camaro in both directions of the loop that is 7.6 miles long thus taking into consideration the wind resistance. The 2017 Chevy Camaro ZL1 managed to reach a top speed of 202.3 mph in one direction and 193.3 in the other one.

The Camaro chief engineer Al Oppenheiser said: “This test caps an impressive list of performance stats for the Camaro ZL1, which was designed to excel at everything. It’s the most capable – and fastest – Camaro ever.”

The ZL1 that was tested used the production Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3 tires with 44 psi of pressure during the high speed runs. Furthermore, the tested vehicle differs from the stock one only in mandatory safety features and data logging systems which were put both inside the car and out.

The Camaro ZL1 goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds, and it reaches the quarter of a mile in only 11.4 seconds with 127 mph on the speedometer. In the corners, the ZL1 achieves 1.02 Gs, and all of these figures are for the ZL1 with a ten-speed automatic.
