The main obstacle for Audi to introduce their laser headlight technology into the United States market was the NHTSA. That was the case until the recent change of situation. Apparently, this technology got the green light because it was determined that it represents no danger to the traffic participants, and it will be featured on 2017 Audi R8 V10 Plus Exclusive Edition for the first time.

Actually, this piece of tech is limited almost exclusively to this model. That put aside, let us see what this technology consists of. It is based on standard LED headlights that are being used on this supercar but are additionally equipped with high-intensity laser diodes that are put into a module of each and every headlamp. This kind of light is bright and completely white from the effects of phosphor converter that transforms laser beam into the light itself. Laser headlights become active only when the speed of the car exceeds 40 mph (64 km/h).

This is a unique edition of Audi as we already mentioned it. It owes its exclusivity not only to laser headlights but also to the following facts. There will be only 25 pieces made, it will be painted in Quantum Gray shade, sideblade will be made out of carbon fiber and will feature Solar Orange stripe, 20-inch wheels will come as standard; diffuser, front lip spoiler, side mirror casings and rear wing will all be made out of carbon fiber.

Interior will feature Full Leather package colored in Black/Signal orange with Audi Exclusive signature. Rest of the interior also breathes out exclusivity. The steering wheel is also specially prepared for this edition, together with illuminated door sills that have engraved “One of 25”.
